A very quiet week in front of us as we have just a couple of flat runners as the team put the finishing touches to the yard, stables and facilities. On Friday a couple of dozen horses will have their shoes on and start their pre-training as we get set for the main jumps season.
We have had a great summer so far; half the haylage is made and the grass gallops have been topped, railed, and…
Just over twenty four hours after the elation of seeing Vino’s Choice bounce back to winning ways at Perth, we suffered the tragic loss of Ash Hill at Hexham. A highly promising individual, he was a horse we had big hopes for this season and it is a massive blow for the yard and in particular his owner Ronnie Bartlett. Ash Hill is pictured earlier this week with Derek. We also had the misfortune…
Vinos Choice finally got his favoured conditions, good ground and a two mile chase, at Perth and won under a strong ride from Derek. Although not one of The Two Black Labs' leading lights, Vinos knows how to win and his strong finish up the home straight was impressive. There should be more opportunities for him in the future.
In the same race, Lucky Flight ran better than his finishing…
After a quiet week, we have 10 runners spread across three tracks this weekend. First up, we make the short trip to Perth on Saturday where we have both Lucky Flight and Vino’s Choice taking their chance in the 2m handicap chase. A course and distance winner last summer, Lucky Flight needs to bounce back having been pulled up at Ayr with an irregular heartbeat, but with that seemingly a one-off,…
A relatively quiet weekend with just the three runners at Hexham tomorrow, the Northumberland venue one we are particularly keen to support given they do such a great job with their watering system, providing a safe surface for our horses to race on.
Rapid Raider is our runner in the opening handicap chase, dropping back to 2m after failing to get home over 2½m last Saturday. The quick turnaround…
Hexham has been a happy hunting ground for us over the past few years, and having won the award for top trainer at the track last season with seven winners, we recorded our second victory of the current campaign on Saturday when Speak of The Devil ran out a convincing winner of the 3m handicap chase. Bouncing off the good ground, Devil jumped superbly under a positive ride from Stephen to come home…
Following the success of Speak of The Devil at Hexham this afternoon, we have seven runners set to line up at Perth tomorrow, although with the course watering to maintain good ground, we’ll have to check conditions are suitable before deciding whether all will take their chance.
Petite Rhapsody, who is declared for the opening novice hurdle, is very much a case in point as he appreciated…
Whilst most eyes will be on Epsom tomorrow afternoon for the Derby (Hurricane Lane is my tip!), our focus will be very much on Hexham where we have two runners at the picturesque Northumberland venue.
First to take his chance is Speak of The Devil, a previous course winner who ran a fabulous race to finish second on his most recent visit a month ago. That was a race in which the majority…
After a quiet spell in terms of our summer jumps team, it was good to get back racing over the Bank Holiday weekend with runners at Cartmel and Kelso. Pick of the bunch at Cartmel was the performance of Methodtothemadness who finished a fine third on what was effectively her chasing debut having unseated at the first at Perth on her previous outing. In the same race, Katalystic found the twists…
A busy spell off the track has continued, as following hot on the heels of four days at GoffsUK Doncaster sales last week, Tattersalls Cheltenham hosted their May sales last Thursday.
We have been focusing on assembling a fine team of young horses and were delighted to add to that further, coming away with three new acquisitions.
DOUGLAS TALKING is a 16.3 hands…
