Well Above Par Wins The Northern Lights Middle Distance Final

A super return to top form for Well Above Par at Carlisle this afternoon, with an emphatic win in the two and a half mile Northern Lights final. The stars aligned with the persistent rain turning the going soft and, given a positive ride by Derek, Well Above jumped well and stayed on strongly. We have struggled to find appropriate races for Well Above but his owners' patience and perseverance have paid off and they can take great satisfaction from this win. Congratulations Anne, Andrew, Roger, Euan, Ian, Ginny, and Sandy, and a special mention to Cameron who rides the strong pulling Well Above at home.

The soft ground prevented Mint Gold from running, but Majestic Storm found the conditions to his liking, and while he lacked a turn of hoof when the others quickened, he stayed on in the bumper gaining more experience. He will now go over hurdles.

At Doncaster Red Missile enjoyed racing in front over the mile and a half but could only stay on while the others quickened. He should be capable of winning over further and has a nice summer in front of him contesting staying races.

Thank you to all connected with the Go North weekend, it has showcased the racecourses, horses, jockeys, and trainers in the North and is a most valuable addition to our racing calendar.
