It was great to get back amongst the winners at Perth last Sunday as Red Missile made a successful return to hurdles in the 2m maiden. Given a fantastic ride by Derek, he was momentarily outpaced when the leader kicked turning into the straight, but once finding his stride he really powered home, coming away on the run-in to score by 6½ lengths. Now a winner both on the Flat and over hurdles this summer, he may step up to 2½m next time.
Earlier on the card, Flat recruit Don’t Look Back was hampered by his inexperience in the opening juvenile hurdle, producing some novicey leaps, and can be expected to improve with this debut hurdles outing under his belt.
On Monday, Perth stalwart Boy’s On Tour bounced back to form when finishing a close fourth in the feature 3m handicap chase. The trip just seemed to stretch him on the day and he could drop back to 2½m at Perth’s finale meeting later this month. Petite Rhapsody was our other runner on the second day of Perth’s two-day fixture and there was some encouragement to take from his mid-field finish in the 2m4f novices’ handicap hurdle. A keen-going type, he settled better on this occasion and will hopefully prove capable of building on this.
