Shanroe Street continued the hot form of the stable when winning the three mile handicap chase at Hexham this afternoon. A most consistent stayer who jumps boldly Shanroe deserves this win and it is a super boost for the Kelso Members Lowflyers who have had a mildly quiet year. While eleven years old Shanroe has been lightly raced and should be able to continue his good form this spring.
Progressive indeed; Mighty Thunder crowned his excellent novice chase season by winning the Scottish Grand National at Ayr this afternoon. A horse who has grown in confidence and loves to relax and gallop over the extended distance, Mighty jumped neatly throughout, and while briefly outpaced coming into the home straight, he stayed on strongly to the last and extended on the run in to win by just…
We continue to have good runs, and following our Aintree and Kelso successes we had a super run from Aurora Thunder at Ayr when she was second in the Class Two mares handicap hurdle; she is pictured in the blue Allson Sparkle silks. Stepped up to three miles on the good ground she stuck with the leader and was just denied at the line to post one of her best runs. Knowing that she will stay the extra…
A good day for the yard and owners at Kelso with a double from progressive novices Bollingerandkrug and Mannochmore and some good runs from the other young horses.
Bollingerandkrug is a chasing type who has grown up through this season and, following a win round here in a novice hurdle, he showed that he is mature enough to win a handicap this afternoon. He has plenty of scope and may go…
Ahoy Senor stepped up markedly on his Ayr victory to win his first Grade One race, the Doon Bar Sefton Hurdle at Aintree. Given a positive ride, and emulating his Ayr run he made all and as Derek asked him to gallop away from the last he stayed on strongly to the delight of his owners Carron and Bruce Wymer and Peter Russell.
While this was Derek's first Grade One he had the confidence in…
Aintree is always an exciting meeting for us and although we have just the two runners we are looking forward to them running.
Ain't My Fault won nicely last time and while this is a much higher grade of race he is in the handicap and deserves a crack at a Class One chase. He has been in good form at home and looks in good shape for this open race.
We are going to be at the track…
Hexham was a bit of a non-runner day as we had entered a number of soft ground horses, and when the going was good we ended up with just the two runners. Prince Dundee made a most satisfactory return to the track to be third, jumping boldly and loving being back racing. He had a stress fracture to his cannon in August, but having had two screws inserted he has made a full recovery. Our other runner,…
Some rain over the weekend allowed us to use the grass gallops today and we took advantage of the soft ground to work a batch of four year olds for the first time. It's A Midnight (Midnight Legend), DomandLouis (Getaway), and Yessiricanboogie (Milan) worked alongside some older horses, Celtic Flames, A Ladies Milan, Mint Gold, Effet Special, West End Lady, Southern Girl, Cockle Bay, Hector Master,…
A super return to top form for Well Above Par at Carlisle this afternoon, with an emphatic win in the two and a half mile Northern Lights final. The stars aligned with the persistent rain turning the going soft and, given a positive ride by Derek, Well Above jumped well and stayed on strongly. We have struggled to find appropriate races for Well Above but his owners' patience and perseverance have…
The final day of the Go North weekend and the focus is on chases at Carlisle.
In the two mile handicap final we run Mint Gold, a good ground novice chaser who has had a nice break to prepare for this run. With a determined attitude, he has improved for chasing and our only worry is that the forecasted rain will soften the ground too much. If this is the case he will not run, Derek and Jaimie…
