It was excellent to get back to the winners enclosure with Ain't My Fault who won the two mile novice handicap chase in determined fashion for Foresight Racing and Stephen. A headstrong type at home Ain't has not always had the strongest finish but Stephen has him nicely settled both at home and in his races and he finished off well.
In the Eider we were over the moon with Haul Us In on…
We have had a bit of a steady time on the yard with snow and ice suspending racing then a few quiet runners since.
The daily challenges from the snow were dealt with efficiently and effectively as the staff rallied together to keep the horses warm and exercised. With no racing we could concentrate on keeping the yard running and we were lucky to be able to keep the gallops open and in working…
Mighty Thunder won his third chase from four starts this afternoon when taking the valuable Edinburgh National at Musselburgh. Getting into a great rhythm and jumping economically, he stayed on well from the home turn to give his owners Allson Sparkle and jockey Blair Campbell a memorable win. This could be the start of an exciting staying chase career for Mighty, and for the yard he is an exciting…
Still quiet on the racing front, although we had two runners in the jumpers bumpers at Newcastle yesterday with Book Of Invasions showing a return to form when fifth in an odd race, while Voix D'Eau did not relish the sand and we will change things around for him next time.
At home, the weather continues to challenge us but sleet, high winds, and rain although uncomfortable, still allow…
Keeping the horses at peak fitness is something that we love doing but it is always frustrating when the weather intervenes and race meeting are flooded or frozen off. Losing Wetherby and Newcastle this morning is a double whammy coming on the back of Musselburgh, Kelso and Ayr fixtures lost to January weather.
We do have entries at Sedgefield on Monday (currently frozen and standing water)…
Corach Rambler was bought by Scu at the Goffs Yorton sale in November and backed up his purchaser's confidence with a galloping win at Ayr today. Given time to get into his stride by Derek, Corach hurdled efficiently and stayed on up the home straight to win by three lengths.
Corach is owned by a partnership including his breeder Paul Hills, and there are three shares available in him;…
It has been a tough week for the staff with snow, slush and ice adding to the usual daily challenges, but we are used to such things and Bradley and Davy with the snow plough, salt spreader and rotavators have kept the gallops and roads open and all the horses have had ample work to keep them fit.
We had a few non runners at the start of the week, but are now ready for seven to run at Ayr…
The Welsh National at Chepstow was on having had no snow and the frost sheets had kept the ground frost free, but had dried it so that it rode more like good to soft. Big River ran an honourable race in the conditions, outpaced but staying on to be eighth. He has a few more long distance targets this season and has returned home sound and in good spirits.
The snow and ice are thankfully…
Happy New Year from everyone at Lucinda Russell Racing, and let us hope that 2021 does not have the surprises of 2020.
The national lockdown has been applied again but we are so fortunate to be able to continue racing, adhering to the strict guidelines set up by the BHA. Sadly owners will not be able to attend, but at least the horses can continue to compete and the industry can continue,…
Bollingerandkrug won his novice hurdle at Kelso this afternoon, looking to build on his previous runs and use his new found experience to good use by leading and jumping well for a novice. He gamely kept the second horse at bay and with this win under his belt, he should be able to go on for his owner Debs Thomson. Bought by Debs at the Goffs Land Rover Sale as a three year old, he has a nice turn…
