Last Week's Progress

A glorious weekend to round off a very busy week, and some work days to be proud of.

The majority of the winter horses have now had three pieces of work and yesterday we were delighted with the progress of each horse. There is still ground to cover and the horses will change shape again, but they are strong and moving well and we are where we want to be as we head into September. I think that the work on the grass that we have been able to complete with soft ground, and the extra schooling on the carpet gallop have helped strengthen the horses. Coupled with the water treadmill which has built up any lacking muscle the team has added power to all of the inmates. On the home page there is a clip of Katalystic, One For Arthur and Refer To Rory schooling on the carpet gallop.

Stephen, Blair, Thomas, Cameron, and Patrick have also been working hard on the three and four year old unraced horses. A batch of eight are worked each afternoon and they are all in a good way of going and are relaxed in their work. Pictured are four of them, working in a good rhythm up the woodchip at Kilduff. They schooled this week over the hurdles and while all are yet to run, they have a solid education to build on. Pictured are three year olds Dylan (By Dylan Thomas), Spark Of Madness, Diamond State and the four year old Bollingerandkrug.

It is weeks like these that make us love our jobs.

We now have to let the horses show their ability on the track and we start next week with two flat runners, Exchequer and Gemologist who go to Musselburgh for Gerry McGladery and The Musselburgh Lunch Club. Both horses will be hurdling later this autumn but will enjoy a spin on the flat and while neither have won recently, they are in good form. Exchequer, in particular, seems to be well in himself, although he will be stepping up in distance from his French runs.

We have two social days next weekend with our annual Open Day on Saturday, run by the BHS Scotland in aid of the IJF and BHS, to which everyone is warmly invited. On Sunday we then have our Owners Lunch, in connection with Edinburgh Gin who will have their Gin Bar, and Heaven Scent who are providing a posh barbecue. Photos and reports next week.
